About Us

Waipiʻo Honeybee Tours was created from a deep love for honeybees, Hawaiʻi’s landscapes, and the belief that meaningful experiences can reconnect people to nature.

Founded by Alex Bean, owner of Māla Honey Botanicals, our tours began as an extension of over a decade spent working closely with honeybees across the Big Island. What started with caring for hives and crafting small batch botanical honey infusions slowly grew into something more. A desire to share the experience of sustainable beekeeping directly with others.

Located at Puʻu Wai Gardens on the Hamakua Coast, our tours offer a hands on and educational look into the world of honeybees, pollination, regenerative agriculture, and life on a working farm in Hawaiʻi. Guests walk through tropical agroforestry, learn how honeybees support local ecosystems, suit up in professional bee gear, and safely experience a live hive alongside a working beekeeper.
More than just a tour, this is an opportunity to slow down, ask questions, taste real Hawaiian honey, and experience the incredible intelligence and importance of bees up close.

Through Māla Honey Botanicals, we have always focused on mindful beekeeping, sustainability, and creating products that reflect the beauty of Hawaiʻi. Waipiʻo Honeybee Tours brings that same mission into an immersive experience designed for curious travelers, families, and anyone wanting a deeper connection to the natural world.
Whether it is your first time seeing a honeybee hive or you have always been fascinated by bees, we hope you leave with a new appreciation for these remarkable pollinators and the environment they help sustain every day.
We look forward to welcoming you to the farm and sharing this experience with you.
