Where is the tour located?

Waipiʻo Honeybee Tours takes place at Puʻu Wai Gardens, just 2 minutes from the Waipiʻo Valley Lookout on Hawaiʻi Island. Detailed directions are provided after booking.


How long is the experience?

The guided tour lasts approximately 90 minutes.


What is included?

Your experience includes:

  • Educational honeybee presentation
  • Guided tropical fruit and agroforestry walk
  • Hands-on beekeeping experience in protective suits
  • Guided tasting of rare Hawaiian honeys and Māla Honey infusions
  • Small honey jar and honey stick to take home


Is the tour safe?

Yes. Guests wear professional ventilated bee suits with veils and gloves while visiting the apiary. Our experienced beekeepers guide you throughout the experience.


What should I wear?

Please wear:

  • Closed-toe shoes
  • Comfortable outdoor clothing
  • Sunglasses are optional

We provide all protective beekeeping gear.


What is the minimum age?

Children must be 5 years or older to participate.


Do I need experience?

Not at all. This tour is designed for complete beginners as well as those interested in learning more about honeybees and regenerative agriculture.


What if I’m allergic to bees?

If you have a known allergy to bee stings or have experienced anaphylaxis, we recommend not participating in the hive portion of the tour. Please contact us before booking if you have questions.


What happens if it rains?

Light rain is common in Hamakua and tours usually continue. We have covered areas and umbrellas available.

Tours may be rescheduled or fully refunded only in the event of severe weather or conditions that make the hive experience unsafe.


Can I take photos?

Absolutely. Photography is encouraged throughout the tour, including while wearing your bee suit.


Can I purchase honey after the tour?

Yes. Guests can shop our collection of raw Hawaiian honeys, botanical honey infusions, gifts, and seasonal products after the experience.


Is parking available?

Yes. Complimentary parking is available on site in a gated area.

Are restrooms available?

Yes, private bathrooms are available on site.

 

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes. Advance reservations are strongly recommended as group sizes are intentionally kept small for a more personal experience.


Can I cancel my reservation?

Please refer to the cancellation policy provided during booking. Severe weather cancellations initiated by us will receive the option to reschedule or receive a full refund.
